What a day. I was planning to work on my novel and did not. I went into the Amazon Publishing site and found out that the program called Kindle Vella will be discontinued in February of 2025. That was where I was going to issue my chapters of my “book” and thought that would be a great motivator. I guess it would be a motivator if I could actually finish it by then, but instead I will work on my cookbook.
This last week has been stressful in many ways. I have one week from today before everything needs to be ready for a party at my school that I am in charge of. I came home on Friday determined to not think about it all weekend and I have been doing a pretty good job, but believe me — I’ve had thoughts of panic, of not getting everything done. Oh well, tomorrow is another day to finish stuff. I have also been working on a plan to make sure everything is done. It’s called “delegation.”
I also became a full-fledged member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. This organization is the largest women-run service organization in the world. They contribute lots of money to my school, Chemawa Indian School. Last year when I became the DAR Assistant, I had the bright idea of whether I could become a member. Turns out, I can. I am descended from Richard Dickerson, a supporter of the American Revolution and a patriot. The registrar at my local chapter researched some of the American Revolution patriots to determine whether I was descended and she discovered Richard Dickerson. He was “new,” which meant that he had to be approved as an ancestor before I could be eligible. She went through a lot of work and let me a know a couple weeks ago that I would be voted on in Washington DC on December 5, so I could come to the meeting in Aurora, Oregon (The Belle Passi Chapter) on December 6 for the regularly scheduled meeting, which I did. I brought one of our DAR Club members from school and we had lunch and she took photos, etc. It was exciting. Here is the photo she took! I edited it for the sake of privacy to the others in the photo.

I finished a really great book last week. The author was Kristin Hannah and the book was The Great Alone. It was about a family who moved to Alaska. I was very touched by the book and would recommend it. I had previously read The Women by the same author and loved it as well, although it too was sad. I’m hoping for a reprieve of sad books.
Well, it’s Sunday and tomorrow is the beginning of another busy week at work. I am going to make this a short one. I will try to pick up the pace and write again soon. I was working on a cover for my e-book today and that took more time than I bargained for. I want to include pictures in the book, but for the cover I wanted something happy and not so serious. Here is the picture I chose.

I’m still not sold on it entirely.
Oh, and one more thing. We have found about a dozen houses in Italy and have actually expressed interest in 4 or 5. We sent a message requesting more information. That was kind of fun!. We’ll see what happens. I hope I don’t have to try to speak Italian when they “call” or “chat.” Here is a picture.

Until next time… Ciao!
